Up at 8:15am and out to the car at 8:30am. Set about replacing the bottom ball joint this morning.
The sun had barely come up and it was a little fresh to say the least but a hot cup of tea and I was away. Daz warned me that it was a pain in the ass job but it was easier than buying a whole new lower arm and then having to push out bushes to fit my Powerflex polybushes.
Undoing to bolts wasn't a problem but manouvring the arm out of its location was a bit of a nightmare, especially removing the ball joint shaft from the hub. I used a variety of levers and combinations and got it out eventually.
Once off the car, I went upto the shed and put the arm in the vice. I started to grind the heads off the rivets but decided it may be better to drill them out. I started with a 2,5mm drill and managed to snap that one on the second hole. Carried on with a 5mm then went back thru' with a 7mm. I then used a cold chisel and a hammer to remove the rivet heads from both sides of the arm.
Popped the rivet cores out with a punch and I was ready to fit the replacement QH balljoint in its place. PART# QSJ1518S
Pics below from start to finish and it would appear that I inspired my son Jack to carry out some maintainence on his sisters car??
