EGR Blanking plate with no cheater. Good or bad?

Hi as per the title really.

I've just noticed that the 2.2 is normally fitted with an EGR valve but when I recently rebuilt a 2.2 top end due to chain failure there was nothing present, just what I now know to be a blanking plate. I've noticed that most people fit an EGR cheater...this isnt present on the engine I worked on so is this good or bad?

Car had been running fine for a couple of weeks since the repair but now the EML light is coming on and car going into limp home mode, its only from looking into this that I have stumbled into the EGR situation (or lack of).

Also, will a U480 read codes on a 2001 Z22SE in a Zafira? I also have a eBay ELM327 based cable, with PCMScan on laptop....anyone know if either of these will read codes?

Starnge you shud mention a zaffy with no egr valve... recently changed a cam cover gasket on a neigbours 04 plate 2.2 zaffy and all thats on his is a blanking plate...no valve in sight, and no wiring near, or in the loom that would got to it...

Yup same here. 04 Zaffy but with a replacement engine from an early Vectra I think.

Also no wiring or loom in sight. Maybe the Zafira doesn't use an EGR?
