i have a 51 plate 2.2 sri astra and the timming chain snapped so braught a new engine and fitted and now i cant get it to start ,it turns over and theres feul pressure (press the bleed nibble and feul sprayed out) just wont fire up i cheecked all wiring and seems all good any advice

Earth to coil pack?.... easy to miss ..

Daz, Where is the earth connection to the coil pack ? I see only one connector on the right hand side into the coil pack

that the one with the capaitor on

its a bare cable which goes fron the block to the cam cover...from memory it bolts by the lifting eye

crank sensor connection is also worth checking, easy to forget to plug it in :thumbup:

just clear up the ecu was from the engine that the timming chain went on if it makes a diffrance also is there a way to check the knock sensor

ecu should be fine then :thumbup:

knock sensor is normally very good, not heard of one ever failing :crazy:

bean told that it might need reprogramming at vaux but spouse that cost a fortune
i herd that if i take the knock sensor off i can test it with a multimeter if i pass a bit of ferrious metal infront of it

If ure using ure old ecu, it shud be fine....

ill go round and check everythin tomorrow and check compression and put the op-com on it and hopfull find out wots up could it be the coilpack ??

I don't get how that acts as an earth for the coil pack, where is the contact made from the cam cover to the coil pack?

I saw a copper strip on the cam cover, but there is no strip on my coil pack to make contact with the cam cover.....

while i crankin the rev gauge moves so dodsnt that mean the knock sensors is working and the ecu

Quite simply coil pack bolts to cam cover (metal to metal contact). Cam cover has rubber gaskets inbetween cover & the head so it needs an earth connection. Hence the rear-right (above thermostat housing) earth strap lead to link it to the head.
