OK, tested fuel pressure as instructed. When pressing the valve, fuel does squirt up, but maybe 10 inches high. Certainly not high enough to hit the bonnet! Pinching return pipe, didn't seem to make any notable difference...

Not sure if was meant to or not, but after quickly pressing in vavle, all pressure was then lost, pressing vavle again did nothing until turning ignition off and on again

Sounds like you either have a dirty fuel line/filter or your fuel pump is not working too good :thumbup:

and replace the fuel pump relay

on the older vauxhalls they overheated and use to cut out the engine

Superb!!

Have just been to halfords and bought a fuel filter and relay, the values (12v 30amp) tie up with the purple GM one and then pin layout is the same, assume its a direct swap ?

Feel like i'm getting close! Thanks chaps

ok, quick update.

Changed fuel filter and fuel relay, started engine no differnece. EML light came on though and three error codes stored

P0404 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit Range/Performance (Open Valve)
(00) - Not present

P1516 - Throttle Actuator Control Position Performance
(00) - Not present

P1682 - Electronic Throttle Control Malfunction
(00) - Not present

Unpluged CTS, cleared errors codes, started engine, no difference, but EML didn't come back on.

Plugged CTS back in and ran engine for 8-10 just to see if things improved when the engine heated up, after 8 mintues or so there was a lot of smoke coming from the engine bay, quickly stopped the car and went to see where it was coming from, coming straight off the EGR valve, thick oily smelling smoke.

EGR blanking plate and cheater ordered last week, which hopefully will turn up tomorrow. Could it be the EGR after all ???

hmm i definatly think it is electronic m8

next stop is ecu / chip & transponder and opcom to program it in imo

not uncommon for these ecu's to play up

come across 2 or 3 now on this forum over the years

How was the fuel pressure after you changed the filter & relay? When you push that valve it should literally shhot up and hit the bonnet.

If your fuel pressure is low then you will get error codes relating to egr/tb because the ecu detects its getting too much air (if that makes sense) and then gives you codes relating to that. As far as im aware the fuel system has no sensors......

Last year i had a similar experience with my silver coupe. I replaced my fuel pump in the end to solve the issue.

Sorry for slow responses, tested fuel pressure after changing relay and filter, no difference at all. Fuel still jumping up no higher than around 10 inches and immediately losing pressure thereafter.

Is this the pump I'm after ?

Seen a few different looking ones about, is it a involved job, I have TIS and it makes it look overly complicated, thinking of getting a mechanic round.

i find it strange that your car can rev but wont hold idle surely this is not fuel starvation - i be more inclined to get opcom on a laptop and get some sensor data up

have you replaced the map sensor ?

you got opcom right ?

where do you live btw

not replaced MAP sensor. I was under the impression very few of the sensors are active when cold ?

I've got OpCom and laptop, will gladly get any sensor data you can help me with...

I live just to the west of Maidstone, Kent. Are there any z22se experts in my region ? Will happily pay one to help me out here :thumbup:

yes map sensor is active as it tells the ecu the pressure inside the manifold to calculate throttle position at idle - any air leak then the ecu compensates by changing throttle position

need to know map sensor pressure / throttle position / engine load at idle m8 using opcom

Update incase anyone is interested, Paul (astra22bertoneauto ) came to the rescue and after changing the fuel pump and MAP sensor we then found the EGR valve was stuck open.

Blanking plate and cheater fitted and she's now sweet as a nut! Just in time for the summer sun!

Dont forget a massive thanks to Vocky for inventing the cheater. Just think how many times he has saved many many people tens of pounds by not having an EGR valve. An excellent invention :clap:

Absoloutely, im extremely grateful!

Have done about 40 miles in it now, the only thing I have noticed is when accelerating it chugs/kangaroo's a bit before picking up. We did reset the ECU, could it still be learning its parameters ? It has gotten better the more I'm driving it.

Yes the more you drive it the better it will get as the ECU learns again.

Quick update, have done a smidge under 450 miles now, and whilst it definately improved to start with it doesn't seem to be getting any better now.

If you accelerate lightly its absoloutely fine, if you accelrate hard its absoloutely fine, but if you accelerate somewhere inbetween its hesitates/misses (maybe) briefly between 1700rpm and 2500rpm and then picks up fine :confused:

The plugs were in a pretty bad state, i'm thinking a new set of plugs and a second coil pack I have laying around ?
