Anouther rattle "what could it be?"

Hi guys

Since my first Zafira blew up "timming chain" i have been on the look out for others and have been repairing quite a few.

I have a Zafira at the moment with a Z22SE engine that is driving me CRAZY

I replaced the timing chains "both timing and balance" with all new chain kits including the upgraded tensioner and oil jets

after putting it back together it continued to have a rattle that only happens when you accelerate while the car is under load a bit "but not always"

I though to myself maybe the chain was faulty so i pulled it apart again and replaced it with a new kit. I put it back together again with the new kit and its still has the same rattle.

Im 100% sure this time that the chain is ok and it was extremely tight and is 100% in the correct timing position.

Im now lost to what this rattle could be or where to start

Any help to get this resolved would be GREAT

no loose ducting for the air inlet or anything like that? mine rattles under hard acceleration, i should secure my filter properly :crazy:

Leak at the exhaust manifold, or the exhaust maifold gasket to head..

i will take it down to the exhaust shop this week and get it tested

Could be a loose heatshield or something.
Also. Run the car briefly with the auxilliary belt off.If the noise goes away it could be a faulty aircon clutch, compressor, belt tensioner or a rattly alternator.

sure its not your big ends ...does the rattle get worse with engine revs ...

or a sticky lifter

Hi again

No the rattle stops at high Revs. Also have noticed you can't get it to rattle unless the car is under load "in Gear" and also will not rattle until it warms up.

Its not a stickly lifter as they are all NEW

Taking it to the exhaust shop this week

Ive just started having a similar rattle, although mines rattles when in Neutral and its always at about 2,900rpm. I was thinking it was the TimingChain but had this done 4000miles ago but was worried the Tensioner might not have been 'Activated'.
I dont think its anything to do with the exhaust, the noise is definetly ahead of me when I'm driving.
I serviced the car 2days ago thinking that maybe the old oil causing the problem but this hasnt really helped much.

Its almost sounds like a high revving diesel to be honest.

Well i have just got it back from the exhaust shop and all checks out OK "no problems there"

I have just had a service done so its not bad oil and the tesioners are defiantly activated.

Any other thoughts to what it could be?

I had a thought today that it might be the Oil Pressure dropping, mines definetly sounds like a Diesel when it reaches 3000rpm and that in a Petrol engine would mean no oil but I've also just serviced the Coupe so its no that.

Mines only makes this rattling when accelerating normally, foot down its ok till about 4500-5000rpm then it gets quite loud.
