Hi all. Ive been visiting and viewing the forum a few weeks now, initially to learn a bit about the z22se engine as ive been in the market for a mk4 Astra 3 door (as a daily runner); and it was either the 1.8 (i know a bit about) or indeed the 2.2 (knew sod all about) ide be going for. Good DTI's were too dear. (circa £1500 budget)
I ended up with a nice low mileage (51K) 52 plate 3 door SRI Astra 2.2. Black. FSH.
So far ive been pleasantly surprised by the z22se. I knew the rest of the car would be great, but wasnt sure about the 2.2 engine (im quite a fan of the small block 1.8, seems to be almost as capable as the big block's above it for less outlay - a nice balance of decent performance and economy)
But now im becoming a fan of the 2.2; Its just as good, if not better. Impressed with how it too combines decent fuel economy with better performance; glad i went for it over the 1.8 in the end; just nice for a change - my previous daily car (vectra b x18xe1) and my other, second/summer/weekend/track/show car is a mk1 Nova with a z18xe on ITB's and MBE. So a third 1.8 small block might have got a bit boring.
Anyway, the car is my daily hack - so plans arent supposed to get ambitious. lol.
But the basic/simple upgrades that improve efficiency - or more to the point; fuel economy- i am hoping , gradually, to carry out. So the airbox/throttle body/egr removal/remap and exhaust i think.
This forum is bigger, busier than i thought it'd be to be fair. Which is good.
