engine swap like for like or is it ?

i was on this site yrs ago when i changed my timing chains but i cant log in using my old name. found alot of help on here.

Ive just bought a vectra sri 150 exactly the same as mine apart from its Y reg & mine is a 51 plate.
i aint checked the engine number yet but fingers X it is the same.
it had a bus crash into the back door so its been wrote off so am just stripping it. keep some & sell some.

Is there any easier way or do i just work from the haynes manual ?
do i have to swap any sensors/keys or the ECU from my old engine to my new 1?

you should be ok to just transplant the old ecu onto the new engine. :thumbup:

thanks i was thinking about swapping all the locks & ign. barrel but not sure if this would be a problem.
also mine has traction control & the engine/box its goin in hasn't.

i think thats only a problem if you use the ecu from the new engine, the old ecu will already marry up to the car, and if im correct traction control is only spark and fuel retard any way.

so to quote a certain sweet advert "marry them together!" and all should be fine

I think i said that on a couple of posts too 😃

But yes OPCOM or Tech2 can do that no probs. I transplanted a Zafira ECU onto my astra.

if you're just swapping the engine you don't need to switch the ecu at all! nothing in the engine to know what ecu it used to have - it's just a lump of metal

wot about all the sensors, arent they married up as u say to the ecu from which the engine is comin from

maybe in a canbus car they are but in z22se they arent 🙂 think some of the later veccy may be can but but defo not ones of your's age
Basically only ecu is paired with ignition barrel - engine and sensors can be swapped and changed wherever (plenty people done this on here)
