Another Bertone 2.2 Coupe

Well just thought id update you all. I've bought another Astra Coupe off Fleabay for £500. Its a blue SE1 with 17" rims and part leather and blue alacantara interior.

When i picked it up it was misfiring but managed to get it home. Done a compression test and got readings 13bar, 11bar, 13bar & 11bar. Found that the timing was out by 1 tooth at the crank so realigned the chain to the correct marks. Also checked & reset the tensioner. Starts & ticks over smoothly now with even compression on all 4 pots. But its knocking like a grannys knee.

Took off the sump last night to find the con-rod bearing on the 1st pot was like this: -

So its engine out and rebuild.....

Good price there for what you got, what's the mileage on it?

its got 121,000 on the clock with lots of Vx dealer history. Chains were changed in 2007 at 80k. Manual box too.

I spent the weekend stripping out the airbox, inlet etc ready to removed engine. Cleaned the TB, inlet and the sump pan ready to be refitted. I also de-restricted the airbox too. I will post some pics up soon.

Any suggestions on how to clean the interior, namely the suede seats as the drivers 1 has little bobbly bits on?

Shave them off with a razor :thumbup:

Or wire brush with suede cleaner in one direction the brush the otherway takes the crap off them

UPDATE: Well this weekend i outed with the old (engine) and in with the new (well sort of, wasnt spanking new if you know what i mean). It took a while but got there.

Checked and realigned all timing marks (just to be sure). Added the air/con compressor & alternator but ran out of daylight.

Next weekend I will get the inlet, cam cover & electrics back on. Add oil & coolant and turn the key............. 🙂

Oh i need a new headlight bulb as i nicked 1 for the Zaf! 😃

Hopefully it'll be up and running next weekend pal. The head that your putting on it, has it been P+P'd or is this on the to do list?

No its completely standard atm. I cant decide wether to keep it or not. It even has the pre-cat still :silent: Also the bodywork & bumpers are tatty where someone has tried respraying :shock:

Well it took me 3 hours tonight to get it to a point that i could hear it running 😃

2 hours putting the sump, inlet, cam cover, electrics, exhaust back on. Filled with oil & coolant, crossed me fingers and turned the key.

It then took me 10 mins to realise i nicked the petrol out of it! :crazy: So off i go to fill me jerry can up. Got distracted on the way for 2 seconds drool.gif.
Came back and filled her up (not the Mrs!) and turned the key again. WAHEY! It works! Sounds sweeet. Sat outside for a while with a nice cold beer while she idled over to get the oil circulating.

Now all i gotta do is add the airbox etc, check oil & coolant in the morning. . . . .

Yes its all up and running now. Had 1 issue on the way to Margate - the damn alternator went! Another one fitted now and its a lovely car to drive! Oh and i think it has a 4.17 (zafira) gearbox on it too :o

Ill get some pics done this weekend :thumbup:
