After a few months of it lying about while I try to find time to finish it I have finally turned the key and tried to start my 2004 Astra after doing its, rings, big end shells, stem seals and timing chain.
Im getting good compression on all 4 cylinders, good spark and fuel but my engine seems to run like a bag of spanners and if I try to rev it it simply dies.
And to had to my frustration there seems to be a rattling developed on the chain end.
I am by no means a novice mechanic and well practised in doing belts on Ecotecs, Zetecs and even the dreaded K Series so how hard should a Z22 Chain be for me??? It seems to be a pretty fool proof and easy job.
When I fitted the tensioner is it possible that something could have moved out of synch especially if all the slack seemed to be on the inlet side of the chain?
Is it possible that I could have the crankshaft 180 degrees out after rotating it to do my big ends.
I was careful to line up all the coloured links and rotated the engine a few times to check nothing was colliding and the timing looked ok however no matter how many times I turned it I couldn't get the links back in line with the marks on the sprockets.
