Until 2012 there fine but as of the beginning of the year even our cars with there projector type lens will fail, there's many new things changing, like no more de catting oil burners and also checks on wire's so poorly fitted mods may come into contention.
To make our HIDs MOT passable we would need headlight washers (an easy mod) and self leveling headlights (not and easy fix) So even if you could get some factory xenon headlights they would fail as we don't have the self leveling stuff on the rear suspension.
Re the SMD convertion it was my first time mate, I started with the easy bits like the door switches and went from there, TBH the hardest part were the clocks as one slip with the iron and there fooked, the main screen however is pretty robust but with 36 smd's at only 3-4mm and each one having 3 legs its a tad fiddly. Crazyleds do kits mate, its where I got mine from.
