Hi I am new to the site but i have found lots of useful information from you guys. You have usually covered everything I needed to know. But now I am stumped.
Ok Here we go.
Firstly I had a fully functioning car on 218000 miles; she was a little sad on power and was beginning to be noisy on start ups. So I thought it would be wise to change the engine before mine let go.
so 3.5 days later and a 42000 mile engine fitted she started first time. I changed the injectors to my ones, changed the ECU to my one, changed every sensor to mine, put my alternator on, my starter so in effect the only thing left on from the old engine was the inlet manifold. This is slightly different to mine because it has a metal plate on it with a big spring inside it an the side the vacuum pipe fits on. No idea what its for.
so I put it in and it started. It ran a little noisy Possible the tappets; I dont know how long the engine has been sat for. But took it on a test run and it threw up a fault PO171 ( fuel to lean). So I cleared the fault after cleaning the MAP sensor on the air-box (as advised on a forum). Then went for another test run.
she ran for 18 miles and was fine stopped in traffic and she died >eeeek> but she stared again fine. So I turned around and headed back, half way back down a hill she died again, no bang or weird noises. So tried the immediate to bump as I was coasting but no go, so pulled off the road. Sat tried the key and just clicks. Battery was dead. So looked for an obvious problem and found the alternator wire had melted the plastic nut cover off and the wire was loose. I thought woohoo found the problem, so when the other half turned up and we tried to jump start it with the wire fixed on properly it went 'POP' very loud like a turbo hose had pop off. Loud back fire and some smoke came from around the exhaust manifold. So it was towed home.
I have since changed the plugs, taken the injectors out and checked they are dumping fuel in, turned it over with the plugs out but connected and I have spark. But it will not fire, I get a half assed attempt at a fire on the very first turn of the key then just a spinning engine and a slight compression sound. I haven't compression tested yet but I think I still have compression. I have checked all the wires and they are good.
Could it be the ECU? Have any of you got any ideas as to what to check next?
I get all my lights on when the ignition is switched on but the computer says there are no DTC's stored. It is linking to the engine though.
please guys I could do with a hand, I just do not understand; I have fire fuel and air but no joy.
cheers Jude. notsure.gif
