Cam Chain Replacment in the south east

Hi,

Started my 2003 Astra bertone this morning and the car is making the dreaded cam chain rattle 🙁 I'm holiday for the week in bournemouth so the timing is terrible.

Does anyone have a recommendation in the south east? I fear Vauxhall are going to bend me over to have it done :--(

I hear the name Benny mentioned a lot when it comes to Cam chains, but he's located in the midlands somewhere ? Is there a Benny of the south east?

I think i am getting one step closer to finding someone to come out and take a look at my Astra. I have a question around the oil jet nozzle though that I wondered if somone could answer.

I would like to have it replaced at the same time as the chain kit is done....but does the oil nozzle come with the Vauxhall Chain Kit, or must it be purchased sperately ?

I'm in a real dilemma with what to do with my car, timing chain started to rattle though engine running fine, turned it off immediately.

10 minutes later I then had to move the car off the driveway, engine started and ran but immediately I felt it was idling lumpily, so quickly turned off. I haven't started the car since....

Just got off the phone to a local mechanic, who basically said he can travel to my house to change the timing chain kit for £480 all in, he'll then do a compression test to see if i've done any damage to the valves. At which point its new head time or a new lump.

I'm so confused on what to do, what are the chances the timing is just 'slightly' out ? Or should I just opt for a new engine...

Anyone able to offer some wisdom, this car is making me sad 🙁

its a tough one mate i would do it cheaper but im thinking i wouldnt want to do all that work and the valves to be bent notsure.gif

If the car runs at all, you won't have bent valves
