oil leak

Hi im new to this site:-

I own a Vecta B CDX estate Z22se engine, can anybody help? 😃

I have owned this car for a year now, and am generally a huge Vauxhall fan (Used to be a Sales Exec at Vauxhall main dealer LOL)

However for various reasons that I wont bore every1 with I ended up getting this car last year, and although I like it it is not the best example.

I have what was described as a dangerous oil leak by my local MOT test centre. The timing chains have been changed when I had it serviced by my independant mechanic as was the crankshaft oil seal.

The top of the engine block is shiny clean with no evidence of oil leaking, but My mechanic tried to investigate further but cant seem to find where it is coming from. It is dripping down onto the alternator and also onto the air con compressor that is all I know.. Can anybody help please?

As im on limited income I dont have lots of money to pay garages just to investigate

The oil pressure switch is on the back of the engine - don't know if that would drip onto the alternator, but it's worth checking as the Vx oil switches are prone to leaking.

had similar thing when i got my 2.2 going again. it leaked all over the alternator n airconpump, thought it was the timing cover gasket but was the crankseal, throwing it round with the belt.

Has the belt got a lot of oil on it??

Quite bit but was told its blowing when car is moving... My mechanic said head gasket possibly but nonoil in water or mayo on dipstick/ and level on dipstick not dropped much just that oil got into AC compressor making it noisy

Crank oil seal was done when chains/ tensioner done few months ago

UPDATE... Had my vec b 2.2 in a independant garage who say not head gasket but they suspect is crank oil seal!!! Shame as this was replaced when timung chains/tensioners done in march 2011, still at £180 approx is still cheaper than having head done which would been about £800 lol 😃

That's scandalous, how many hours labour are they charging you to change the seal?

Yep that is scandalous. The seal must only cost a few quid and only take at the very most an hour to fit including a break for a brew and a smoke. That sould have cost you £35 to £50 at the very most.

It could also be the round cover that hides the bolt for 1 of the timing chain guides. It is located on the (chain) side very close to the front on the head. MAYBE that has not been refitted correctly and is spraying oil onto the A/C compressor & alternator.

This cover can be removed by a hex (allen key). Try removing it and refitting.

Just an idea as you mentioned chains were done recently and this had to be removed to enable replacement of 1 of the guides. Hope it helps :thumbup:

cheers astra2.2.. will mention this to workshop as having had the cam cover gasket seal done and crankshaft oil seal done I have today found oil still weeping from somewhere! :evil:
