Really wierd problem with my astra coupe z22se, So therefore long story!! Timing chain broke shock horror!!!! So whipped the head off no piston damage, all 8 exhaust valves and 2 inlets knackered so whipped it to a so called head specialist, got it sorted, new valves, guides, n stem seals, got it home put it back together no compression!!! To be honest i thought id buggered up the timing and mashed the valves again.
So it sat there for ages as id jus spent all my cash having the head done.
Finally got round to whipping the head off to discover the valves are nowhere near closed, you can see light through them!!! There all straight jus miles from being shut, n they certainly never even lapped the new valves in, or even cleaned underneath before fitting them, there was years worth of muck stuck to it. So started at the begining andwhipped em out lapped em all in fine, checked with parafin in the ports no leaks at all.
Awesome start rebuilding, put the cams in, gave em a turn with a spanner with the head on the side, did a 360 turn on the cam, all valves opening and shutting ok. Recheck the 2 cylinders that are shut, bit more parafin in the port, pisses straight through??!!!
ok mayybe the valves are a little too long??
hydraulic lifters are ok
Whipped the cam back out, kinda expecting them to pop the last little bit shut, they didnt!!
if i use the valve spring compressor on them again they go right back where they should be. So its like the spring hasnt quite gone the full distance, just i would of expected it to have when the cam was removed.
It does kinda look like there isnt any clearence between the valve stem, the rocker, and the cam. But if the length of the valve was the problem wouldnt it hav popped into the right place with the cam out??
are my valves too long????? are the valve springs buggered??
Please please help, im having to drive round in a peugeot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
