New Petrol Caps

After many months of getting high on petrol fumes, I thought it about time that I replaced the fuel caps on the Zafira and the Vectra. Both have had the same problem for a while now. The cap can't be done up tight enough before the rachet slips and the cap works loose allowing vapour to enter the car.

You can see in the pics below that there has been a design change in the caps. The new is slightly bigger and has a different sealing assembly. I also read on VVOC that there has been a field remeady issued regarding the fuel cap?

I noticed the difference between the caps as well when I bought my new one, and my car is only 5 years old.

Here's the VVOC thread about petrol smell.

As above really guys, now im thinking that it could be the petrol cap, im only saying this as a lot of vauxhalls suffer with this as vaux are currently running a feild remedy on the astra mk5's .

Nothing visable, just a smell when drivers window down and moving, nothing when window is up, nothing when staionary and checking around car.......

Anyone else had this?

Makes sense. You can feel the difference with the new cap and it just feels like it seals a lot better. Not had any more fume smells since fitting the new cap.

think i could do with a new one ,ive noticed recently when tightening it up to the clicks i always go past this ,but whenever i take it off it hardly needs undoing ,as if its working itself loose :think:
