Guys, could you offer me a bit of advice on my theory.
I have been offered a complete turbocharger/manifold etc from a Z20 NET engine. So it has got me thinking about turbocharging the Astra. The way I see it, I need to do the following.
1) Fit the turbocharger to the head.
2) Connect the oil feed and return. As I understand it, the VX220 2.2 has an oil cooler which the Astra Z22 SE doesnt, so the oil feed and return are blanked off on Astra.
3) Connect the water feed and return. Not figured this out but should not be hard to do.
4) Modify the intake to the turbo, this should be easy using an Astra Z20 LET airbox and Z20 NET intake pipe.
5) Modify the downpipe, again should not be hard.
6) Plumb in the intercooler, Vectra C parts could help.
7) Fit an external boost controller.
From what I have read so far, I should be able to keep the current compression ratio as long as I don't go above 7-8psi of boost. This should in theory give me about 180/185bhp and a nice chunk of low down torque.
Then if I want to go higher later, then a new set of pistons should help.
Am I on the right track here or is my theory completely flawed?
