cam cover

hi everyone can i take my cam cover off with out putting a new gasket on it or is it best to put new one on it? i just want to see how much play in in the chain and is the sump got gasket seal around it and not a gasket i seen some oil where car was parked and looked under and its abit wet where sump go on :thumbdown:

I've taken mine off in the past and not replaced the gasket. No problems at all. What I will say is to make sure the gaskets around the plug holes don't drop out when replacing the cover back on. All the gaskets are all rubber.

thanks 😃 when putting it back on do you just rip them up is there a set way to tighten them up? do you know if sump just gasket seal? notsure.gif

I can't remember the torque setting for the bolts off the top of my head. Not too tight or you will get a leak. I'll dig out my trusty Haynes tomorrow. I usually work from the middle of the cover outwards in stages. Nip each one then go round again and so forth.

right i clean the oil off bottom engine ran in for 30min and then had a look under it and had a drip of oil and this is where it`s coming from how will i stop it?? notsure.gif

As far as I know, that's the oil level sensor and can only be removed by dropping the sump. I don't know if the seal is a separate item

seal part number is 90542913,epc shows 2 different part number for the sealent,either 93165267 or 93160951 on the astra but only 93165267 on the vectra c

really sorry for bringing up my old post but thought be easy then starting new 1 about same thing 😃

sensor in the pic in my other post has started leaking alot now so i am going to get sump off next weekend and put new seal on it and hope its that and not the sensor its self leaking, but i just want to know if this seal is deffo the right 1?? http://www.vauxhallworldparts.com/vauxh ... r=90542913 and what should i use to reseal the sump and what torque are they? i also seen on google some 1 had removed the sensor all together and joined the wires together can this be done if need be?

Remove the metal clip and it just unplugs - dont need to join wires. drop the sump (when its empty 😃 ) and just remove the circlip holding sensor in place and you then fit new seals. When refitting the sump just use some high temp (automotive) silicone sealant/rubber gasket in a tube.

Ive never had to take 1 apart but as above according to epc (Vauxhall catalogue) that is it.

will give vauxhall the part number on tue when am off see what they say hopefully its the right 1 so can get that sorted aswell while its off the road
