VX220 Exhaust questions

Is the standard backbox on a VX220 really restrictive or is it only restrictive if you go for much higher power?
I'm getting annoyed with my custom one that sounds like a wet fart at low revs and drones on the motorway.

I have a virtually brand new standard back box sitting in my shed and I was wondering if fitting a 200cell cat to it and drilling out the pre-cat would be pointless. The noise would be a lot quieter than mine but a little louder than standard, but would it make any difference to performance?

The most bhp gains are found by replacing the exhaust manifold, downpipe/cat section and the U bend, the backbox just quietens the sound on cars below 200bhp :thumbup:

Only mods on the engine are the induction kit, the P&P throttle body and a cat back custom system so drilling out the pre-cat, putting in a 200 cell main cat and putting a standard backbox on would probably help rather than hinder?

Would a 2" cat be ok to be welded into a mostly standard system? dunno..

it will be better than a standard cat, but a sports downpipe has got better pipework
