MOT, what to do?

I want to have the car MOTd this or next week. I'm going to book it tomorrow.

So far I've changed the spark plugs 150 miles ago, engine oil 100 miles ago. I'm going to clean the TB and buy a new GM air filter tomorrow. If time allows I also want to clean and paint the brake lines with silver Hammerite (they are not excessively corroded or anything, just to make them look better, and protect better hopefully).

Any suggestions what else I should do?

To me the car is 100% ok.. but I'm afraid of emissions test so hopefully I did what I could to help it. I just fitted a new air filter today. The car doesn't drink oil. MOT test - Saturday morning... I've started biting my nails already haha

If you are worried about the emissions test, just make sure the engine is hot and had a good thrash to get the CAT upto temperature.

I'm worried about everything to be honest as this is the first time I'm going to MOT this car :eh:

As Matt said take car for a drive first. I use a MOT station 20 miles away just so its upto temp.

However i found if you have a modified engine & exhaust (200cpi cat) my car failed on emissions on a <u>standard factory map</u> on the ECU. When i swapped the ECU for the Docs 1 (he has superchips map) it passed the MOT & emissions test. Just something to bear in mind. :thumbup:

As said above, get the car toasty before the test, however try not to get to the test centre ages before the test is due as the car will cool down too much...... you dont wanna be dropping it of 1st thing for a midday test ....

why worry if the car fails on the emissions .. you can go back for a free retest ...

its the only part of an mot you can ask to have done for free ( emissions)

I hopefully won't have to retest...

Ok.. it's time to take the car for a drive... MOT test at 9am :shifty:

Failed on brake lights.. I had a look today after the MOT and it was a wrong light bulb causing the problems. Unlucky.

I'll have to pay 20 for a retest I think (or maybe not I don't know).. but at least it's sorted now.

Emission test:

**fast idle 2500-3000 RPM
CO (Max limit 0.200) - Actual Value 0.001 Pass
HC (Max limit 200) - Actual value 0 Pass
Lambda (Min limit 0.970, max limit 1.030) - Actual value 1.011) Pass

**natural idle
CO (Max limit 0.300) - Actual value 0.000 Pass

When they do retest do they check everything again or only bits it failed on?

Thanks. Last year the car had 1 advisory on slightly corroded front brake disc inner faces.. But I replaced the front brake discs and pads a few months ago.
