Engine out (nearly)

Hi all
The engine is all stripped down and ready to be disconnected from gearbox and lifted out
Just looking for some tips on how to actually do it
Is anything special needed with the clutch? notsure.gif

you need to remove the crank pulley and oil pump, this allows you to leave the gearbox bolted in place :thumbup:

take the weight with the hoist or trolley jack, lever the engine away from the gearbox, then lift it up and out of the car 😃

remember not to press the clutch pedal whilst the engine is not installed....

what happens if u press the clutch?

I got it out - was easier than I thought!

how many mm height of grooves are on a new clutch? trying to decide if I need a new one or not

if you still have the grooves then it's ok (as long as the springs are not loose)

ps: grooves are not that deep on a new disc :thumbup:

well the grooves are barely there, less than 1mm deep
Is it still usable after grooves are gone?

what oil should i use to run it in?
Also the clutch I got from ebay (courtenay no stock) doesn't have springs in the friction pad.. is it cheap crap that I should return?
Comparing the depth to my original one and it's only about 50% worn so good for another 80,000 miles maybe 😛 I will stick that one back in 🙂

don't use an unsprung clutch plate :thumbdown:

the grooves are about 0.5mm when new :thumbup:

I use cheap halfords semi-synth to run the engine in

just thinking.. does it matter which way round the rods go in? I never thought to check...

I just copy the original rods by using the bearing cutout as the correct way round :thumbup:
