Losing oil, advise!

Hi Fellas,

Since 8k km i start losing oil a bit.
Now the loss is 1l per 2.3-.2.5k km.
I checked for leaks, and there is none.
When i force the car after 3k rpm it blast grey smoke.
I removed the inlet and i saw that i have oil in the inlet manifold as well in the inlet ports (fyi i have oil catch tank and EGR removed).
I've measured the compression ration and it was from 13.9 to 14.1 on all cylinders, but not on cold oil.
I was thinking that my piston rings are gone, but the oil in the inlet starts getting some doubts that the problem might be in the head steam seals.
Any advise from where to start, as i am planing to open the engine to replace the piston rings and as well to inspect the head, but i changed the vales, valve leads and also valve steam seals almost 15k km ago.

VX say that 1L of oil per 1000 miles falls within tolerances for this engine. There is also a problem with the oil scraper rings (I believe) its mentioned in TIS with a field remedy. Unfortunately mine had this problem but it was still covered under VX warranty.

Out of curiosity, what does TIS say about the oil scraper rings?

All it says is Piston rings with correct tangential force have been introduced as of the following engine no's: Z22YH: Engine-no. 11 384014 Z22SE: Engine-no. 11 379771

So this points to piston rings?
How can we explain why i have oil in the inlet ports?

I have also got the same problem with mine mate. The pipe from the rocker box is an oil breather so i put a catch tank on mine to bypass the oil going into the inlet. The car runs much better but still have problem with oil burning when you stick your foot down. I am pulling my engine to bits tommoro to change the oil rings as this seems to be the fault everyone has with the engine. Its such a shame VX didnt build a better engine in the first place as they make enough power for most ppl but because of problems like this they let the car down.

Ahhh i know that, fella here in BG did already the piston rings change and since then no problems at all, less than 0.5l per 10k km.
I am going to do that operation at the end of August, cause i want to go to the deserved vacation - Black Sea.
But the plan is to remove the head, replace the piston rings, roots bearing and some additional port and polish of the head (i have serious port of the inlent and exhaust ports already).
Well...500 Euro shall cost me the repair in total with the parts.
Shame...i am going to import one Z20NHH and will forget about all of those lets sa...bad moments!

Have your valve guides checked out while its apart as stem seals are only as good as the guides :thumbup:

Well..an year ago when i did the port & polish and changed the valves the guides and the steam seals should be brand new.
When i open the engine shall go with the head to check it again, cause it is very bizarre to have an oil in the inlet with EGR removed as Oil Catch Tank installed.

BTW - Which brands are good fro piston rings and roots bearing?
