Z22YH engine problem at low revs....

Right,been having this problem for about 4 days now.

Basically when giving some throttle at under 2k rpm,it feels like there is a missfire,but once it gets over 2k it goes fine with no loss of power.Few people have said it is the fuel pump,but after reading up on Vec-C and google etc,its not giving the fault codes or driving like the pump is at fault.The EML or spanner light dosn't come on either when the problem is happening.HPFP was changed at 110k by Vauxhall in 08,car is now on 128k.

When my mate put his Opcom on it,it came back with a fault code for swirl flaps.We didn't even know the 2.2 Direct had swirl flaps until we looked and seen the connecting rod.

Now when giving it some revs while stationary,the rod seems hesitent when bliping the throttle on and off,but when reving it higher up,it moves free and the car is fine.Like this when driving too.

Any ideas??

might be worth cleaning the swirl flaps, I know the cdti engine has similar problems when the swirl flaps get clogged up

Yeah had it all stripped down last night but the alt was in the way so couldn't get the inlet off and ran out of daylight.Will get it off this week and have a look.

Do they just clog up or possibly break up through wear and tear??

Right,stripped the car down 2night and found the problem.

The swirl flaps linkage rod,has 4 wee ball bearing type sockets inside,which the swirl flaps are attached to.Well the far left ball bearing socket was missing.So when the car was at part throttle,3 of the flaps were opening a tad more than the end 1.So when giving it more throttle,the metal rod that comes off the flap,was catching on the plastic connecting rod letting it open the same amount as the other 3,which is when the car ran fine.

So hopefully Vauxhall can supply just the connecting rod on its own.
