When did they stop making the z22se?

I'm new here and wondered when they stopped making this engine? Do we know what it was replaced with? I'm looking for a 2.2 16V Astra convertible.

Hello and welcome. I belive that the z22se engine was in production until 2005. The z22yh engine was introduced in 2004 which took over.

about 2003 the engine was uplifted a little with a black plastic rocker cover then in 2005 it was killed off and the yh took over the only engine left in production is the z2.0net ...but this will go out of production at the end of this month .(insignia facelift will not have a large 4 pot petrol unit)...and the chain driven 4 pots will be no more ever again ........ cryb..

Isn't the insignia getting the smaller 1.4T engine?

Matt i believe they are getting the smaller 1.4T but they are also sticking with the 1.6T unit featured in the Corsa VXR.

Many thanks for your help. Did they make any changes to the z22se after the cam chain recall? So if I bought a later 2.2 Astra, would it still have the cam chain problem?

z22se's produced after the recall were produced with the z20net tensioner and larger diameter oil jet.
This did sort the problem out for the most part but these chains still need to be changed every 100K miles.

Yep, we were speccing one up the other day because a bloke at work wants the 4x4 diesel version, and saw the 1.4T engine on offer

yep ....its actually better fuel econ and power than the 1.8 ...not by much ........but tax is a biggy .......but saying that the twin turbo 4x4 is ment to have very little carbon foot print due to stop start .....

Thanks again for your help. I finally bit the bullet and bought the same car (z22se of course) as I had before, except that instead of 150,000 on the clock it's only done 40,000.
I am so so happy, but the only sacrifice is that I probably need to check the oil every hour. But then anything is better than having a car you need a part for only to find the manufacturer never made that part and it's stuck off the road!
