EML light on start up

Hi all,

Quick question.... EML light has been on for years with P0420 but i've noticed at the weekend its gone off, i've checked the codes with my code reader and the fault is still there, can someone tell me if the EML light should come on at start up then go off, i thought it should but its not coming on at all so guessing the bulb has finally gone?

ive got exactly the same thing with mine been on for ages with the same code.

and yes the eml should come on and then dissappear on start up,unless there is a fault then it stays opn ,so its possible the bulb has gone

Cheers Pottsey, will give it a while and have a play about otherwise I'll look at changing the bulb, know if its easy enough to do, is there a 'How to'?

While we're on the topic, the guy who does my MOT says that from Jan 2012 the EML (and ABS etc) lights become part of the MOT, so if any are on they need to be resolved? - Anyone know if this is true?

depends if it is stored or active

for example if you start and turn your car off after a certain number of times without p0420 being active they it will be stored / pending

the p0420 has to hit certain criteria to go from stored / pending to active

the ecm checks the voltages against the front and rear lambda and it should be a much more smoother wave than the front
