Vectra C SRi 2.2 16v performance.....

Right,i sold my Astra SRi 2.2 16v as i was really taking a liking to pre-face Vectra C SRi's.

Last night i went and had a look at a 2002 2.2 16v C SRi and now im not sure.For some reason,the car felt awfy gutless.Felt like it didn't want to rev at all.It idled fine and no EM lights on etc.But when driving it,it felt like it would take about a week to hit 60mph.My mate had a shot too and said no way should it be that slow.It also had a small rattle when coming down the revs.A sort of exhaust twang rattle at about 2k rpm.Do these have the pre-cat??Thats how it felt,like something had been shoved up the exhaust.

Am i maybe expecting too much??I know the Vectra will be heavier,but my Astra felt like a rocket compared to it.

Need some opinions from you guys.

Vectra 2.2 is SLOW. It's heavy compared to Astra. According to Parkers Vectra 2.2 does 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds. Don't expect too much from a heavy car with only 150bhp.

Astra 2.2 SRI - 1210kg
Vectra 2.2 SRI - 1427kg

What he said ^^.

The performance will be down up to 60 and possibly up to 70 but after that the acceleration is the same. Top end speeds are supposedly slightly better on the C's due to the aero.

Yep, I even noticed a difference in acceleration when I went to the 1.9 CDTI Vectra C compared to my 1.6 Astra G, it was only marginally faster to 60 due to the extra weight (until I stuck a tuning box on it 😃)

Didn't the cops use these as patrol cars though??The 1 i drove couldn't catch a cold,never mind anything remotely average,speed wise.

I believe they used the 3.2 v6 versions

Correct, they were the GSI versions they used.

Small update.....

Its safe to say that the 1st SRi i viewed was pretty shagged.I picked up a 2005 Sxi 2.2 16v 2day and the difference was like night and day.I wouldn't say it was 'slow' though.Its not fast,but it does feel like it has a wee bit grunt when needed.Even pulling away it wasn't lacking in go.Its more of a smooth and comfy power delivery.

Correct, they were the GSI versions they used.

Right enough,they were SRi spec with Gsi running gear.

I was about to come in and say they aren't that bad :thumbup:

My 2002 Vec C 2.2 SRi isn't going to win too many traffic light grandprix's, however when rolling from 2nd gear onwards it has enough pace to at least keep up with other similar sized cars with similar sized engines.

I drive a Vec C 1.9 CDTI 150 also at work, and to be honest there really is no difference between them. A lot of people rave about their peformance so the 2.2 can't be that bad. cheers..

It shifts on the motorway but yep, getting it to 40 can be a time consuming.
