Finally NAS!

Finally bought a NAS today. Went into PC World to buy a Printer, and came away with an Iomega IX2-200

It comes with 2 X 1TB Seagate ST31000528AS drives already installed.

Management software is nice and easy to use, so I'm just setting it all up now.

Sorry mate, you'll have to elaborate on what you mean by winrar quickpar for the testing? I can show the speeds dropping a DVD ISO, but it's being limited by my laptop NIC card, as it's only 100mb, whereas my switch and the NAS is GigE

a lot of my storage is used for newsgroups

i then use winrar . quickpar to compile the files and then burn or transfer em

i am looking for a device that can securely store my personal info
also my pc will run a lot lot cooler minus a few hard drives as i mainly use ssd for my os
my pc will be quieter as i can hear the seagate sata2 drives spinning up

Yes, I'm probably going to put it though the wifes business and try and get the VAT back on it.

Smart move, and its not a bad price either for what your getting.

It was a real bargain. I was on the shelf for £180, which I was happy with, and it was actually £120 when I went to the checkout :thumbup:

Yep, was a nice surprise, given how expensive PCWorld usually are.

Just installed mediatomb onto the NAS as it's a better media player than the built in one :thumbup:

Quick update. I'm very pleased with the NAS, stable, fast and so far very reliable

Just had to power the NAS off so I could move the plug to a better place behind the desk

Well, twice over the last week, I've lost access to the NAS. It just stops responding. Going to make sure I get a copy of the data from it to my external drive, and keep an eye on it over the next few weeks.

Backed up all my data, and I've set the NAS back to DHCP, as it was set to static IP addressing when I switched to the new router.

I've not had any further troubles with the NAS since switching it back to DHCP

Seems odd that giving it a static IP gave it a issue did you reserve it on the router?
