Had the MOT done on the Zafira a few weeks ago at my local Vauxhall specialist dealer and all was okay but had a few advisories. 2x new tyres as they were on almost on the wear limit, 2x new rear indicator bulbs because the orange coating was flaking off, slight play in the track rod ends and outer skin on the rear box badly corroded.
I'd replaced the bulbs straight away but waited until now to start the rest. I've been away on holiday this week and have noticed a bad clunking from the steering so I made a call to a place called Ablefit who usually work on the Zafira for tyres. I asked for a price for 2x Uniroyal 205/55/16 and both track rod ends. The price for the tyres was £57 each fitted and the track rod ends £47 fitted. Only problem was that the tyres were on back order.
So.....I called Manor Tyres which is a subsidery company of Kwik-Fit. They are only a few minutes from my house so I popped in on the way home. I asked for the above and here is the reply. Uniroyal 205/55/16 at £100 EACH fitted!! Track rod ends £62 EACH fitted!!
The friendly fitter called Stuart from South Africa and I had an quiet exchange of view on his quote and I gave him the prices that I had been quoted from my usual fitter. Within a blink of an eye and a quick tap of the PC and a friendly smile, as if by magic I was given a Managers 'Special' discount of £122.55p from the total.
Now, had I not known the price of the tyres/track rod ends elsewhere, or been a bit naive, female or old, this friendly chap would have ripped me right off. Even whilst I was sat there the phone rang and a chap asked for a price on 2x Dunlop tyres, the fitter quoted £341. He then asked what price he had been quoted elsewhere and the chap on the phone replied £262. Again, the original quote was instantly slashed to match the £262.
I don't know what sales manual these people are working from but they are a bunch of theiving bastards!
