how can i improve signal from vr/crank sensor?

i believe we have touched on this before in mathudds post on his vette, i get a weak signal below 1000 revs which results in both my rev clock and my tuning software to jump around like hell and i get missing.

i believe exmanta said that adjusting the distance would possibly help, any idea on how the sensor could be modified? how much can i move it (or does anyone know the existing gap) i can probably mill some material away to get it closer i just need to know distances.

also vr signal boosters are available although i am unable to find any online.

there is quite a gap on a standard crank sensor set up, so you could machine a few mm off, best crank the engine by hand before testing it :silent:

excellent ill have a look at that,
i basicly educated myself in using the tooth logger in tuner studio, and to my suprise it was reading both missing teeth which as you can imagine wasnt causing me a problem above 1300 revs but was under, i have reversed the polarity and im now getting a clean tooth pattern.
so far it hasnt stalled even when the engine starts to die it picks back up.
for my next task i will reduce the duty of my pwm fast idle valve to try and see how low i can go before it starts to chug and hopefully it will prove it was a polarity issue and not a bad signal from the vr sensor.
i didnt have time to 100% prove this yesterday as im now also running fuel overrun cutoff and wanted that working peroperly before work as its well hilly round here gotta say so far its shit hot 40% fuel saving! :thumbup:

ive not had the laptop attached but yep it was definately a polarity issue, its been great all day, it was wired up correctly but needed to see rising edge rather than falling edge.
(im not sure how that one got there, i knew this. however the set of options you input that into is made redundant by the toothed wheel settings for the most part.) :crazy:

moral to this story is never save a file as the same name when youve been messing with settings! :thumbup:
