mazza_2_2 Oooohhh that looks nasty mate, the cylinder is knackered as well. No 4 is the piston that suffers most abuse. I hope you can get it fixed.
colin002 sanded the mess of the bore today and fitted the piston ... no oil or water got past the rings .. but will build the engine back together and see what happens when i turn the key lol .it might work fingers crossed
Mordoklej To be honest the cylinder looks f00ked. But that's just an opinion based on the photo above.. I've rebuilt a few 2 stroke engines and damage like this needed either to be rebored or replated (depends on the engine) Fitting just new rings would be a waste of money as in no time they'll get f00ked too when fitted on damaged cylinder. If you feel the damaged area is rough when you rub it with your finger then surely it's not ok.
colin002 yeah but at the end of the day its a 2001 vectra .. the engine repair would end up costing more than what the cars worth ... end of day its only costing me my time to rebuild .. if it dont work will sell complete car as non runner ... its not cost effective to put £450 getting the bores rehoned and rings
colin002 quick update piston arrived yesterday .. spent today putting it together and car is running sweet .. no smoke from exhaust so am hoping job done .. just a slight hesitation in power but had that before .. so will buy op com and see whats going on. all in £140 to rebuild ..
Mordoklej Good news, but I wouldn't be too happy to early :silent: But if you do 5-10k miles and it stays like that then..
