Quick rattle...

When I first start my car in the mornings it gives off a quick rattle until the oil gets to the top, it goes away straight away. Does anyone else have this issue? I know the oil settles at the bottom and when you start up the car the oil needs to get to the top of the engine. My last 2.2 never did this what..

I forgot to say the engine has 42.000 miles on it with full history....

i would not worry about it mate if it gets worce check it out then 😃

Does anyone else get this problem? It's only for a second and it goes away. I ain't worried about it but my other one was not like that. Cheers

mine has done it a couple of times,but lasts no more that 2 secounds i would say

Its only where the oil has drained out the hydraulic tappets mark..

mines has done it a few times to mark but im not really worrried about it at the mo unless it get louder or longer 😃

mine does that too, not consistently but it does it say 30% of the time.
A real quick rattle and its gone. probably so quick I wouldn't even have time to turn the engine off before it stopped (less than 2 secs I reckon)

I changed the oil about a month ago and it stopped doing it until thius week and its started again what..
bit worried it was the chain but otherwise the car runs sweet as...

Kinda glad it happens to other people too!

Mines the same. It does the quick rattle very rarely but it only lasts for 2sec or less. I wouldn't be to concerned.

Mine is exactly the same. So glad everyone has experienced the same. Im no expert but i suppose it could be down to the consistency/type of oil used i.e. if its thinner (or cheap) it will all run to the bottom till its been turned over.

Well I run my car on GM 10/40w oil which is changed every 5000miles.
There seems to be no rhime or reson to it. I thought that it might have been a slack tensioner?

I'm not 100% but I'm sure mine is worse if I park it on a road with a camber on it (i.e. the car slopes down towards the passenger side when parked).
It doesn't seem to do it if the car is parked on the flat, although I haven't done extensive testing on this :roll:

However I am feeling much better that mine is not the only car to do this 🙂

make sure you use a good quality engine flush such as Forte` when you changethe oil, it gets all the old crap out.

I Had the same problem until i used slick 50 never heard it since and the coupe stands about all week only comes out at the weekend

it's probably just the oil building up pressure, if it gets worse start to worry, otherwise it's quite common on many engines

I thought any sort of rattle was bad for the 2.2 because it means the chain is running dry for that split 3 seconds or so which will evently cause the chain to snap notsure.gif

Well my motor never used to make this rattle before on start up , when cold or warm & I have owned it since 6 mths old & have covered only 31k 2001 51 reg .

Car is booked in with the dealer on Monday for a check up on this rattle issue via a phone call through vx customer services where I explained my worries about the rattle on the chain & was hoping the dealer would change the chain kit F.O.C , if they dont I will get on the phone to vx customer services before I drive away from the dealership & ask them to confirm again in writting to me the engine is fine will update you soon !
