Can you hear a noisy chain from inside the cabin?

Hello. This is my first post on here so I hope you guys don't mind if I start by asking for some advice.

I suspect my cam chain (52 plate Vec C Sri, 73k on clock) is the culprit of a rattle beginning to eminate from the usual area (but sounds more like it's coming from under the wheel arch area than the actual cam cover). My question is (to those of you who've experienced this problem) could you hear the chain from the cabin? I can hear an intermittent rattle that I thought was coming from the dash/bulkhead area at around the 60-70 mph mark. Do you think things are that bad that I can hear the chain whilst driving?

Any info or advice anyone can give me would be much appreciated. The car has always had regular (6k) oil changes in the 5 years I've owned it. I've decided not to drive it any further for the time being. I've already PM'd Benny in the hope he'll change it for me.

Benny did the chains on my 2001 B with 95k on the clock a couple of months ago. First class job he did on it.

I never heard mine rattle ever, probably due to 5k oil changes all its life. However if yours was bad enough to be heard at 70mph I'd suspect it would have gone bang long before now. Have you tried using a metal bar or large screwdriver to listen to what's going on inside the chain area? That would let you know if the noise you are hearing is coming from that area.

No, I haven't Comet. I'll do it tomorrow morning and report back.

Hopefully what I can hear inside the cabin is completely unrelated.

i could hear mine whilst driving in my car lol

I couldn't hear mine from inside the cabin.Even when driving i couldn't hear it.Was only rattling when it was sitting idling.Even when stationary and giving it a wee rev i couldn't hear it.Then when the revs dropped to idle it would start rattling.
