over tightened timing chain?

Is it possible that an over tightened timing chain on a Z22YH could cause the cams to seize and the gear bolt to snap? I've been told it was caused by oil starvation by the garage that did the work on the timing and balancing chain and the cams do look pretty crappy. I too k their word for it and have listed the car on eBay for spares or repair, but someone has now planted the seed in my head that the garage could have somehow caused a blockage or over tightened the chain.

Would love to hear you thoughts on this. I've just listed the car on eBay and am wondering whether I should remove my add and enquire with the garage or trading standards, although I don't like to cause a fuss and to be honest I would be quite happy with an answer that leave the garage in the clear, but I don't want to be ripped off.

what has likely gone on is the cam shaft has seized in the head and the chain has broken the cam bolt .....now why the cam has jammed is the question a over tight bolt wouldnt do it ........has the car every run after a chain beeing fitted ? ....they may have broken the bolt when they tightened it up and maybe saying the cam jamed up .. ? notsure.gif

I've had another look at the cams and there are little shards of metal in there. I think oil starvation is the correct diagnosis. They are bone dry in the middle but there is a bit of oil on the ones at the side. The car ran sweet for a couple of days before making noise and losing power.

check the oil filter has it broken up or twisted .. ?

the garage that done the work should of noticed the oil problem when they did the chains .. ... garages are too in a rush to get there money and on to the next job .

Working in a garage myself......i cudnt agree with that comment more....boss man always on ours backs to get the work out....

try working for a large main garage chain that dont actually go as far as saying rob the customers and make stuff up ....but give you a bollocking if you dont bullshit .. on a vhc check the "found work ratio" has to be above £140 per invoice .... if a bloke brings his car in for a brake light bulb at about £10 how you expected to sell a extra £130 quids worth of stuff with out a bit of bull ..........

the main oil supply feed hole has blocked in the head, usually a piece of oil filter breaks away and clogs the small hole, this leads to the cams seizing and then the chain snaps 🙁

I'll check the filter in the morning. I think I'm just going to cut my losses. I don't fancy a battle with the garage. I don't know how I could prove it anyway.
