Intake pipe & derestricted air box Q's

I keep reading about derestricting the air box & was wondering if you remove both the pipes (top & bottom) or just the bottom one as i've read leaving in the top one help regarding torque notsure.gif I'm also reading that the vectra C intake pipe is getting hard to come by so was wondering if there is another one I could use off say a vectra B or another VX as my local breakers has loads in & he's cheap. I'm not tight but don't have much funds coming in due to being out of work because of some big health probs so got to keep costs down where I can :oops:

I have both top and lower pipes out in my airbox now

Tried the half derestrict and full derestrict and can't say I noticed any real difference

I've seen a normal 2.2 air intake pipe with big holes drilled along the front face

Cheaper than vec c pipe, wether it does same job or what I'm not sure...But it's free!

My standard 2.2 air intake pipe put up a fight trying to swap it for vec c one

Totally agree with you cah 123, the hardest part really is just the removal of the standard intake pipe due to its ridiculous shape, but when thats out the veccy C one just slots in nicely 🙂

If anything the torque gain should be higher and ive noticed no drop in torque on mine after the full derestrict. :thumbup:

I've just taken out the top pipe out of my airbox last week after only having the bottom one out. Don't think it did much tbh but i also port the tb and removed pre cat on the same day so can't really compare. might throw it back in and see if there is any difference but i highly doubt it.

Also with the intake pipe. I cut out a larger opening to the side. Cut it in a H shape so the top and bottom flaps are still there to help guide the air in. Didn't feel any difference in it but it did slightly increase induction noise. I'm about to order a vec c or astra vxr intake pipe aswell just to make it all look a bit neater.

Thanks for your replies :thumbup: hink i'll take them out later in the week.I was thinking of poss drilling 4-5 25-30mm holes in the air box below the filter on the wing side for a bit of induction noise, would this be ok or will I suffer heat soak

it is worth doing but you must increase the flow of exhaust gases as well otherwise it is pointless imo

i.e larger bore exhaust system & exhaust manifold

by increasing the rate of air going into the engine then it must also exit the engine just as well

Well thought i'd see what condition the air filter was in today & one thing led to another :lol: so have derestricted the lower part of the air box & drilled 5 19mm holes in the lower wing side of the box. I now have a slight induction noise which I like & the throttle responce might be a touch better first & second gear

I've put extra holes in the air box on the VXR. Haven't noticed any performance difference, just more noise.

Me too, but i think its worse.... some of hot air sucks from engine to this holess. Or I think wrong???? I thinking about choke this holes. But the the sound its much better than standard 😃

When the car is being driven with very few stops the effect of the hot air in the engine bay in negligent. When in stop start situtions this is where the effect of hot air becomes more prominent.

Someone took AIT readings on their VXR with an open cone and the standard air box fitted. There was only about 2 deg C difference in them.

i de restricted jus the bottom part 2 begin with, and then did the top aswel and it made a noticable difference in throttle response and power throughout the rev range... taking both parts out did make a nicer induction sound aswel.

How did you manage to get the top one out as mine seems stuck solid ? don't want to break it incase I want to refit it

Big flat headed scre driver will soon just pop it out.

The bottom one is the PITA with the big staples holding it in.
