burning oil

hi recently bought an astra coupe bertone 2.2, before purchasing the vehicle had checked the oil level found it to be at the max level. after a few weeks driving rechecked the level and found it to be at the min mark, decided just to carry out a service used 10w 40 semi drove the car again for a few weeks and found the oil level to be at the min mark there are no leaks and no sighns of smoke from exhaust indicating its burning oil . dunno.. cheers martin

try slightly thicker oil .. 10w 50

my 2.2 had a full service from vx ... drove 325 miles and had to top it up by half a litre

These engines do use oil. Though just to check, you are checking the oil level when the engine is cold?

Also, be careful with changing the oil to a thicker oil. How old is your car? You would need to be sure that the chain and chain jet are the newer type as the older type would be close to being blocked and the thicker oil might not get through to the chain.
