Vectra B issues... Misfire and power steering noise

Hi all,

Picked up my 3rd Vectra on Wednesday - the first I have ever owned with the Z22SE engine! Got a couple of issues:-

1) Misfire - the car was bought as needing a new coil pack, but on reading the codes today, there were errors logged for the EGR valve both at open and closed (range/performance). Removed the EGR to find it was stuck partially open, so have gIven it a good de-coke and it appears to be working correctly now. Refitted, and the misfire is a lot better, but there is definitely a small miss. I swapped the plugs around and I think the misfire got worse, so I will pick up some plugs from the factor on Tuesday, in case they have had it.

2) Noticed a definite leak around the power steering pump, it's spread around the top of the gearbox, and also down onto the oil filter housing below. At the same time I have noticed that steering to the left causes a bad groaning noise which sounds like it is coming from the rack, and resonates up through the floor and steering column. Do you think these 2 things are connected? If so, does it sound like a pump problem?

Any ideas and suggestions gratefully received!!

I had a similar problem with my power steering, turns out the leak was coming from one of the connections on the bottom of the pump which had worked itself loose. Nipped it up with a 19mm spanner and it's been fine ever since :thumbup:

Think I may have sorted both these issues now.

As suggested, nipped up the connection on the pump, renewed the fluid and bled through. All seems ok for now.

Also fitted EGR blank plate and new spark plugs, which seems to have cured the misfire!

Just thought I would update in case it helps anyone in the future.
