Fitted my new chain kit yesterday as the old chain was rattling.Took the cam cover off and the chain was drooping down in the middle between the cams so luckily caught it in time.Guides were fine, old spray jet wasn't blocked, but the tensioner was stuck inside and jamming.
Anyway, when trying to line the markings up prior to removing the old chain,i couldn't get the exhaust sprocket sitting where it should have been,it was always pointing in the middle of the links, rather than directly at 1.So after another 20 or so turns trying to get it lined up,it kinda made sense as to why it wasn't running 100%.On idle it was a tad lumpy, when giving it some shoe after coming off the throttle it was hesitant.I just put the later down to the nature of the engine possibly.Bloody timing had jamp a tooth. So when fitting the new chain i had to pull the exhaust cam forward a bit to get the sprocket on.
5hrs later it was all fitted and ready to fire up.Damn thing wouldn't fire and was stinking of petrol.Few turns of the key later and it fired into life.Idle was spot on so went for a drive. The difference was like night and day.Totally different car to drive.I thought it was reasonably quick before but now it just picks up straight away and goes.
Pretty chuffed tbh seeing as i had never done a timing belt before, never mind a chain. The guides on here for doing it are spot on so a big thumbs up.
