New engine?

Well,

looks like the bottom end is giving out in my car, and im told the cost of fixing this is probably not far off buying another engine, its an x plate Astra with 95,000 miles on it anyway.

So, could anyone suggest the best places to start looking for a replacement? Im idealy looking for somewhere that could guarantee either a certain amount of miles or a period of time?

out of interest, has anyone repaired the bottom end, or replaced it?, and what roughly did this cost them, so I could get a comparison.

The symptoms of the problem were rattle on start up, and when the car warmed up a little...now its just one big metal slapping noise!

the crank has spun a bearing and will need replacing, so it will be cheaper to replace the complete engine, there is a 78k engine with new chains in the classifieds and atomx has a 41k engine for sale too

I suppose its a false economy just changing bottom end, by the time you buy chain, tensioner etc and labour...might as well just go one in, one out!

Man I hate being a newbie lol, I will understand all this eventually!
