Anti-Virus / Firewall Recommendation

My AVG 2011 Subscription expires in the next 30 days. Anyone recommend anything better for similar price?

Avira is excellent, and its free too. Kaspersky is probably the best paid for AV though.

...Or just install Ubuntu :thumbup:

Ubuntu is my other OS on the laptop, but still need Windows7. Just waiting for 11.04 to be released.

In that case try Avira for a couple of weeks - see if you like it. Its free so you wont loose anything!

I'm using Microsoft Security Essential at the minute, seems to be pretty good, haven't had any computer issues or threats so far

AVG2011 expired today, and just purchased the above for £40. Removing AVG now.

Well, just renewed my ESET subscription for another 12 months (y)

free kaspersky with my £400 mobo 🙂 every year its removed then reinstalled for a full year running then self updating

I can't fault ESET tbh, I've had no virus' or malware on the PC. I've also got the paid version of Malware Bytes for extra security.

fan of avg but knowing avg was built on the kaspersky engine i had to get it 🙂 not had any thing on the pc while its been istalled

Ive been using free AVG for 8+ years and apart from the odd occasion where the files were damaged by a failing hard disk its been rock solid!

But a paid version of Kaspersky gets my vote too.

Nup, I am just careful, none of my laptops have any, nor my Mac Pro running Windows and OSX. Every know and then I run the latest version of a virus checker etc off my Hirens Rescue CD but its all ways clean.

I usually recommend AVG to customers though and install the free one first for them to see.

I used to use AVG (as per the original post in this thread). I'm always careful as well with the sites I visit (and I don't download any music or cracked software any more either) and I've not had a virus detected for a few years now.
