Z22se not turning over is ecu gone

Hi there boy am i glad i found this site hope you can help.

Has my ecu packed up

I have a vectra c sxi the problem is it will not turn over the problem started when i turned the key and the starter soliniod was clicking like it had a flat battery but the battery is fine but what i have noticed when i turn the ignition on the engine light no longer comes on it used to come on and go off as soon as the engine was running also the fuel guage has stoped working.

now when i turn the key on the engines rad fans come on then go off then come on and so on. A relay in the fuse box under the bonnet makes a noise and then stops.

So to sum it up

the engine will do nothing when the key is turned
no engine ecu light when the ignition is on
fault reader cant connect to the car/ecu
rad fans come on and off when ignition is on
relay under bonnet makes a funny noise
All lights windows ect work fine

Is it just the Engine ECU it cant connect to or other modules as well like CIM?

i will not connect to the car at all i have no problem conecting to my other vectra thanks Mike

sounds like an earthing problem try getting a jump lead and connecting it from the engine block to the negative terminal of your battery and try again,
check also main ecu earth is connected properly. :thumbup:

When you say other vectra, do you mean B or another C as the C uses a more complex set up.

i have 2 x vectra Cs one z22se and one z18se i can read the z18se no problem and have read the z22es once when the car was running fine but ever since the above problems :problem: i cant make head nor tale of it :x

orderd new ecu today :evil: see what happens will let you know

doing my head in now fitted new ecu cim ect and still it will not turn over i f cant sort it soon its going for parts lol

check there is power going to the ecu

I think there must be power going to the ECU as i can read it and the ECU light comes on with the ignition. Thanks for the help so far keep it coming we got to hit the nail on the head soon Thanks Mike

u need the ecu pass codes and a device that will program the ecu, immobilizer & cim

am i reading this right? it wont turn over at all?

iirc, the starter should turn over regardless of having an ecu in it! if thats the case the ecu aint the problem notsure.gif

what am i saying! :crazy: mine has no factory ecu! it will definately turn over but not fire.

Thats what i was thinking it should still turn over even if the ecu was unpluged :? correct me if ime wrong lol i dont know what i can do now notsure.gif

i would locate all your earths and check they are connected well, there will be one that straps to the block just above the starter one that attaches near your ecu one on the right hand side of your cam cover area and one connects back to the body (on an astra rhs wheelarch)
check you have power going to the starter get a mate to hold a multimeter across the terminals while you try and start.
if its still not working whip the starter off and bench test it by holding it in a vice and put some jump leads from a battery across the terminals.
you want to see the starter gear fire forwards spinning fast and strong (mind your fingers)
the mrs dad would go for the pikey test of jamming a bit of wood in it to see if it can be stopped, but i dont like this! its dodgy!
hope this helps but it does sound like earth/bad connections or a fucked starter. :thumbup:

I :problem: have power down to the starter 12v all the time on the red lead and 12v on the little lead when the key is turned to the start position but the stater does not turn ????. I can put a screwdriver accross the + on the starter motor to the little wire on the starter motor and it will turn over is this bypassing the soliniod and thats why its turning???
Could it be the starter???. all the earths seem fine.

if the starter isn't even trying to crank the engine then check the relay or fuses

your saying it actually turns the engine?
if thats the case your starters probably fine and its more likely an earth or electrical issue to the starter from what your saying.
put your old ecu back on and crank the starter again if it fires it'll prove your problem.
