Ticking Noise

Hi everyone, I have just bought a astra 2.2 sri and i am getting a ticking noise when acelerating from cold.It does appear to be getting slightly louder every day or im just paying more attension to it.As it warms up the noise seems to go away.Any help would be appeciated.

Sounds exactly the same trouble as i had with my 2.2 Coupe just a couple of weeks ago. I don't think you're imagining it getting louder either.

Mine got louder over the course of about a 1-2 week period. Turned out to be exhaust manifold bolts working loose or something! My local vauxhall stealer sorted it out under warrenty for me.

I've been told since that its known thing on the z22se and sometimes the bolts just completely shear off! :shock:

Ive got the same problem with my 2.2 Veccy, did you get it fixed, what was it in the end? I had vauxhall look at it, they replaced the cat, flexipipe and centre section, but it still bloody does it!!

Its sounds to me like its coming from somewhere in the engine, so perhaps its the manifold, but vaux should have picked it up?!?

Had similar sound on a Mondeo and that was tapits.

I work as a vxl tech at my local dealership and we have done quite a few manifold gaskets, main reason is that the nuts come loose (only slightly) and then allow the manifold to move a bit this then allows the two parts of the gasket to move against each other. This then causes an exhaust gas leak 9 times out 10 it will be on the l/h side as you look into the engine bay (chain end of engine). The solution I have used on my own car is to split the new gasket in half so you have two gaskets and use hi temp silicone sealant, this will last much longer.

Great! how much do you charge! at least you sound like you know the issue! unlike my local dealership! The want to charge me £190!!

Sorry for keeping you waiting but I was sunning myself in Tunisia! By the time youve paid for petrol etc any garage could do the job for you, it shouldnt take longer than 1/2 an hour if it all goes well. The studs have a small TORX end so as you can hold onto the stud while you crack off the nuts, this is so you don`t snap off the studs.

As most have alread said, remove the heat sheild and check the manifold bolts, mine did this so i checked the bolts and a couple near the chain end had worked lose. I just tightend them up and its been fine!
