Replaced oil today :(

didn't take any photos before you ask as i was busy doing 2 further oil changes on a vectra & KA

ford ka has done 4k since last year [ i changed oil]

vectra has done 5k since oil change 6 months ago [did it also]

the state of the oil from the astra was like it had been sitting in a ford OHV for the past 3 years

sump bolt was welded on again like the spark plugs were and i had to use a fucking breaker bar in the end as the spanners nor socket was working

oil came out was like treacle - it was black and i was more concerned as to why it was in this condition considering vxhall stealership gave it a full service only 7000 miles ago - according to service book it was given 5/30 but it was more like 15/40 mineral charcoal lol

along with welded on tight spark plugs and dodgy looking oil you wonder if vauxhall actually replaced the oil and plugs at its last service considering the fuel filter also looked more than 12 months old

anyway got the genuine 10/40 and reset the service interval to 182 days instead of yearly lol - might have to change the oil again before this period as i am concerned as to how much crap is flying around in there

so have done spark plugs, oil, air & pollen filter & oil change and next to do is discs & pads

I found the same with the VXR Mike, Vauxhall supposedly did an oil change the week I bought it, but the oil was already black when I picked it up, and given it didn't leave their forecourt I think they just stamp the book and don't actually do anything.

I don't trust the stealers with those things. I change engine oil by myself.

went to look at a corsa last year at lookers vauxhall

usual vauxhall warranty etc

popped the bonnet to notice no water in coolant tank and no oil

i asked car sales rep why it was being sold for 4.5 k like this

oh sorry sir we will service it once it is sold

i said a service wont fix this m8 cos as it is a 1.2 it is most likely a head gasket

also said service history but only had one stamp since new with no other stamps

they use their name to take advantage of people then blag em !

Lookers!! Last time I used them they did a major service and rang me to say all the brake pads needed replacing - fronts 80% worn, rears 75% worn.

Quoted nearly £300 to replace them.

I declined and three months later bought new pads and replaced them myself. When I measure the old pads I found the fronts were 50% worn and the rears only 25% worn.

When I asked the service manager how come they told me I needed new ones the answer was - "We don't remove the wheels so we just take a guess." I was gobsmacked.

Replace/fix anything by yourself as often as possible. There are things I wouldn't dare to fix by myself (i.e. cam chain). But brake discs or pads that's easy. I changed front discs and pads this week. It took me 90 minutes or so. I don't even want to think how much any garage (or Vauxhall dealer) would charge me for that.

I did the brakes myself on my old MK4, and was pleasantly surprised how straight forward it actually was.

Sounds like some very dodgy dealers out there! I usually do most work myself, I'm good mates with a couple of fellas that have their own garage over here. Plus there is always site members who are happy to come work on your car!
