could i use 0w-40 in mine??

Quick answer is yes you can use it.

What's the difference? - I'm no expert. Have a look at the information posted by Oilman who represents Opie Oils, either on here on on VVOC website. My understanding is that 0W-40 is going to be thinner than 5W-40 when cold, so will circulate quicker.

There's mixed opinions re. semi-synthetic vs fully synthetic. I had two X20XEV engines I ran solely on Mobil One, which is fully synth. 0W-40. Neither made it past 75k without series wear problems, even with 5k oil and filter changes. My Z22SE I've kept on semi-synth, either 10W-40 or 5W-30, and it's done 94k and sounds excellent. It uses very little oil and is still giving the same mpg as when it was new. Again, it gets new oil & filter every 5k.

That's just personal experience and preference. Others will have different experiences and opinions.

0W-40 is no thiner than 10W-40 when hot. The difference is when cold, 0W is thinner and in theory should circulate quicker and give better protection. That's the oil I'll be getting next time.

It's good not to rev the engine high before it's up to a proper temperature where the 40 value applies. Revving it high when it's cold and thin is never good.

Not quite - all oil is thicker when cold, and thinner when hot, the question is how thick & how thin. Revving a cold engine when the oil is thick and not circulating is the problem. That's why 0W-40 can be a better choice to protect on start up. But as the engine warms up the oil gets thinner, not thicker. The 30, 40 or 50 refers to the viscosity it maintains as the engine reaches operating temperature.

Ok.. it maybe not thicker and thiner when cold.. But they are pretty much the same at high temperature. OW circulates better than 10W when cold though.

I also always believed that it's good to warm up the engine before you rev it high.

I've been in touch with OPIE oils just last week and they have recommended 5w-40 Fully Synthetic. I am going to use Fuchs/Silkolene Titan Pro S as recommended by them.

ive been using valvoline 5w-40 semi
is it ok to change straight over to a fully syn?

I change mine and alys every 2.5k. Which in time equates to every 3 months. I use gm 10/40 in both of them.

Tried em all over the years.
Fully synth 0W/40 great when cold but a little sluggish when warm, you can certainly tell the difference feels like 3hp or more.

Best all round 0W/30W fully synth, think the last lot was the Fuchs from Opie last year.

So who has highest mileage z22 engine?
Noticed a deterioration around 115k, got shut yesterday at 137k but no doubt would take 150k with a few gallon of oil top ups.
