Have you been remapped???

Hi,

Considering a remap for my 2.2 astra.

Has anyone had it done and are you pleased with performance?
Is it worth the money?
Who done it?

Was it just a generic map which suits all cars, eg just flash the ecu with a different map or a more involved map with fuelling and ignition set up for your individual car?

Has anyone experimented with running different fuel eg higher octane then add more ignition timing during remap for more power?

i've had my 2.2 remapped and it was done at Regal.

mine wasn't a generic map, it was more to it than that. they altered the fueling and stuff and was running it on the rollers in between alterations trying to get the best out of it.

can't say i was overly impressed with mine, i only got a gain of about 1bhp at maximum power although there was an increase in power throughout the rev range. it has made the car more responsive now.

mine was remapped to run on higher octane petrol, usualy put esso super unleaded in.

So was that rolling roaded before and after eg map alone gave extra 16hp or a combination of your other mods and map say other worth 11hp and remap 5?????

K&N induction kit and a less restrictive back box on mine, remapped at Chipped UK from 147bhp to 163.8. The figure is probably higher now as the guy reckons I was losing up to 10bhp due to my coolant system not working properly and therefore the engine would retard the timing. That's sorted now so probably running closer to 170bhp.

The car is such a better drive now though, the figures are not really as important as the way the power and torque are delivered, everything happens in the right place at the right time, no point in having stupid amounts of power if it only comes in at the end of the rev range where you're not going to use it.

normally aspirated (n/a) engines don't get big gains with a remap, typically you only get a few bhp :cry:

a recent thread on another forum talked of a 30 bhp gain on a 2.5 v6 n/a, but the before and after wheel figures were identical, so the transmission loss went from 30bhp to 60 bhp :shock:

you need cams to pass 170 bhp, the standard cams are too mild and the exhaust manifold is also too restrictive

Really just after some more mid range, car seems to go well low down then right where I do most of my driving there is a big flat spot then higher the rev range it goes again. Drove a couple of the 2.2's and they all seemed to be that way.

Just trying to work out if it's worth the money for the gain in performance

Best thing you can do mate is fit a panel filter, pop another hole in your airbox and do the pipe work modifications and then get the remap done. Courtenays offer this type of package for the 2.2 and its refered to as the CS2 Package. I've had both the generic map and a dedicated map by Courtenays. The generic map was my first step on the modifying ladder by the regional SuperChips dealer. This got rid of the flat spots and smoothed things out really well. Then I went onto have engine work done and Courtenays did the mapping again to adjust fueling and that made a whole lot of difference.

If you look at most 2.2 power graphs you will notice a common flat spot low down at around 2500/3000 RPM even after remapping.

Hi,

Got a panel filter allready, done pipe mod to box itself but didn't like the induction noise of the vec c intake so took that off again. Also got remus centre with no silencer and no pre cat (wasn't there)

The chipped uk one seems to offer bigger gains and cheaper but then courtenay have been doing vauxhall for years??????

Is the superchips re-map done using the same equipment as the courtenay one?

Were vauxhall able to access the ecu for diagnostic checks while it was on the superchips map? No problems etc

There is a superchips dealer real close to where I am but courtenay are a 3 hr drive :-(

hi, had my re map done by well lane after fitting re-ground cams and a stainless system. 153 bhp before and 168 after chip. since then had four branch manifold (dbilas)fitted and now got 176 bhp. feels fast now with more torque at low rpm 😛

I think that Courtenays have a little bit more control over their maps because they carry it out whilst on the rolling road where as normal Superchips maps are a generic map thats just downloaded to the ECU.

Also, any diagnostic checks can still be carried out with Tech 2 at Vauxhall but if they decide to upgrade the ECU software which they tend to do without asking, they will obviously overwrite any performance map that you have already had installed.

They say they will install map again FOC if it is overwritten by Vauxhall. Did you have a chance to test your car on the rollers after just the superchips map to see if it gained anywhere near the 10 hp they claim?

Yes mate. 1 month after the chip it was tested at 157bhp at Willfield motors in South Wales.
