Dreaded rattle

Hi all (newbie here) I was wondering if there is anyone local that likes changing timing chains 😃 when I start the car sometimes there is a rattling noise almost like a dirty derv, some times on colder days it will rattle for a minute or two, I am very good at working on cars but I think the timing chain is a bit too much for me when I only get one day a week off and don't have a sheltered place to work, I have spoken to some local garages and they say the engine has got to come out and it will take a day or more to do so they want over £1000 LMAO the car cost me that much no way am I spending that again, Is this the going price or did they see me coming? notsure.gif

Any help will be gratefully appreciated

It took me about 4/5 hours for the timing and balance chain & guides taking it steady.
There's nothing difficult, use the guides on here.. just double make sure timing marks line up and your tensioner is activated before you screw it in.
Turn it over by hand before you put the cam and timing cover back on.
I would add though...Don't be tempted just to do one chain, the guides on both break up after 100K+ miles

Yes the car has done 115k and no record of it ever having a chain changed so guess it would be wise to do both, I have looked all over the web and found loads of useful info on changing it, just a bit worried I wont have the rite tools i.e cam locking tool and if I need to pop off to get anything it will be a long walk :crazy:

Is there any good tools and/or seals/gaskets I had better get before I think of touching it

I also see some people remove the balance shaft, will this be easy for me to do at the same time and is it worth getting rid? notsure.gif
