hiya people just signed up to try get some info on replacing the engine on my mates 2.2 sri is it a fairly big job?? is it best to take out from top or drop everything down?? any information very much appreciated thanks

should of said i will be taking the engine out of an astra mk4.

you will need to remove the crank pulley and oil pump if you want to leave the gearbox in place, quite asy to do though :thumbup:

then lift it up out of the engine bay

yeah gearbox will be left in place will removing the crank pulley and oil pump affect any timing?? don't really wanna get too deep into it just want to pretty much take the engine out and drop another in

yeah ive seen quite a few in the classified section but im getting prices on re-cond units first see how much difference prices are from the used ones. can radiator be left in place when removing engine what other bits if there is any should be removed to make this as easy as i can.

thanks for help so far. ive got a few prices on re-con and there a little too expensive so ive managed to get a used 1 with pretty low mileage for a pretty good price which ill be fitting next weekend, another question is will the air-con need de-gassing or can the compressor be unbolted and left hanging?

so i finally got around to doing this engine swap this weekend, on start up today of the new (2nd hand engine) it seems to have a misfire on idle and when you rev up it gets louder and sounds more knocking what could this be?? could replacing coil pack and plugs solve this?? would a misfire problem bring any faults up as theres no lights on dash and the code reader wouldn't connect to the car and there no faults when doing the pedal test.

a faulty coilpack is known not to give any eml codes, but a duff injector or dodgy injector connection can cause a misfire

well i had the car into a garage today and they said the noise when revving up is very much internal so we've quite possibly been sold a duff engine so next thing is to get in touch with place we bought it from tomorrow. talk about nightmares.
