Gary14 No, just remove the old sensor plug the hole with your finger, have the new sensor to hand, screw back in place. Minimal coolant loss, but top up if required.
comet You'll lose some coolant, but if you're quick you can bung something in the hole, or stick the new sensor in, and not lose too much. Since the system is self bleeding just top up at the expansion tank.
