cool running thermostat

just wondering if anyone has one of these fitted to their 2.2 and did it make much of a difference?

as the weather has been quite warm lately and i have been sitting in traffic a lot i thought it might be a good idea.

what do they do exactly Andy? Do they keep the car running cooler, say 80 deg C rather than 90?

yeah, basicaly they make the fan kick in at a lower temperature which should help the car run cooler. Noticed that the temp has been a little higher this week as i've been stuck in a lot of traffic going to andfrom the beach and also with the hot weather.

just had a look on courtenays website and they are £23.50 which isnt too bad but don't wanna buy one to find out they are no good lol.

yeah, I've noticed it on mine as well, it normally sits in the middle of the temp guage, but over the past few weeks it's been going above this to like 95, and then goes back down when the car starts moving again.

on the wifes mk 3 astra the temp used to go up to nearly 100 and would then sit at 90 which i thought was high but spoke to a guy in a garage he said that was normal for a mk 3.

my temp gauge always sits a bit above 80 even with the hot weather notsure.gif

I've got one fitted. It works great. Keeps things a little cooler. I would suggest getting one.

I have one from Courtenay's, £25 inc p&p. Sorted mine out nicely, took 5 minutes to change, combined with new coolant (red long life Vx stuff) works a treat.

The engine was running at 90+ degrees mostly which was retarding the timing, costing me roughly 10bhp! Sits nicely at 82 degrees now, leaves the timing advanced, so full power on tap all the time now.

IMHO well worth the £25!
