Re: Found a Zaf for the family!
Well just an update.
I replaced the balance & timing chain kits as the old one was original & the tensioner seized up. Took it for a few good runs to "Down to Margate"! (my mum lives there) and was very quietly impressed! Even with 4 adults and 3 kids the Zaf really did pull and was sooo smooth that i didnt realise i was doing the speed i was uphill on the M2.
We also gave the Zaf a bloody good clean out as the previous owner had a dog. It was covered in dog hairs! Used some autoglym on the plastics too and the missus added her touch by attaching an air freshener to the rear view mirror.
Soon it will be off for an engine and gearbox transplant so we can improve the fuel economy. The missus will use it for mainly round the town runs with the occasional "Down to Margate" run. So who ever gets the gearbox I can say its runs really nice and smooth! Reason we are changing the gearbox is so we can do the same speed but at lower revs, thus reducing the fuel consumption. But as the replacement engine will have more torque (and bhp), this will counter balance having a different gearbox and the engine "struggling" with the heavier shell. 😃
