LE5 pistons in a Z22se

May be a silly question, but could the LE5 pistons (88mm dia) be installed in the Z22se after reboring the block, and what would be the resultant compression ratio.

I had a look at some pictures showing both LE5 and L61 engines opened and i can't see any difference in the external dia. of the liners.
Of course, it's only a visual estimation not a true measurement.

the 2.4 engine has a larger bore and a longer stroke, so you cannot use the pistons in a z22se.

it's a saab b207 block with under piston oil jets and the different oil cooler, the oil cooler could be made to fit a z22se block with some alterations.

the 2.4 bore is 88 mm (86 on the Z22se) and also a longer stroke is used.

The difference in diameter is even visible on above pictures.

The idea is to install 88mm dia pistons in a Z22se. If it's possible to get 88 mm in the 2.4 engine why wouldn't it be possible in the 2.2 engine at least without boost.

The pistons ARE 88mm bore
as the LE5 has a stroke of 98mm so the decks heights may well be different
also the pistons have 20mm gudgeon pin dia SE has 19mm

I would not recommend over boring the standard liners

My conclusion I would not undertake this project myself
and I am fairly radical

LE5 standard liners and L61 standard liners are exactly the same parts in fact
Blocks are the same, same deck height

Only difference is the rod and piston combo (and rebored liners of course)

GM says 20 mm for the L61 (same dia as the LE5) on page 84 of following document.

I had to fit Darton sleeves to my engine to bore it out, so on a standard block - no

evocarlos

1mm sleeve thickness prevents 88mm bore 🙂 unless you import a gen3 2.4 block
