I got my new 2.2!!! - just a couple of questions

I picked it up on wednesday and I love it. Its much more powerfull than my old 1.6 rover!! Much nicer car!

Just a couple of Q's-

The car has been fully serviced by the garage I bought it from and it has a years warranty (covers most parts). Also, its an 03 reg so chain should be ok. There is a ticking noise coming from the belt/chain area. does not sound like the noise people are describing for chain problems. It seems like it could be outside the engine block somewhere. It is always there hot or cold. Any ideas?

Also, there is loads of power and torque low down the rev range but also when the engine gets up to 3500 revs it seems to kick in even more power. Is this what the engine is supposed to be like?

as for the noise as it is a 2003 model,like you say i cant see it being the chain issue ?

may just be noisy tappets ?

im sure ofther people will help you out a bit more im not to good engine wise 😃

I hope I dont get too used to it. Its a really nice feeling to have the power at the moment. It just keeps supprising me!! love it! (finding it really hard to drive slowly tho wich is not good)

Thanks Gazza. I saw it didnt work but had no idea what to do. :-)

Nothing to expensive for a while but I would like to put Irmsher front grill on, de-restrict the airbox and maybe put an irmsher cill kit on it. Other than that, for now I will just be cleaning it all up inc engine bay.

Have you done it. Would you say it has improved response and bhp a lot on its own?

Might have to wait till my warranty runs out till i start modding the engine :cry:

Hi,

I have tried the vectra C intake pipe mod and taking out the trumpet part of the airbox lid and cloth pipe in the bottom of the box, can't say I noticed much difference in performance.

What I did notice however is a huge increase in induction noise which was not to my liking so I have refitted the original plastic intake which seems to act as a good silencer if nothing else.

Also, if you are removing the air intake from above the rad and struggling like i did then remove both rad/condenser support bolts (next to headlamps) lift rad/condenser assembly complete from rubber feet at bottom and let it hang further forward and lower to give you the required clearance to remove air intake without the swearing 🙂

i have to disagree with the above post mate, i done this mod last month and am very pleased, the car feels a little more responsive and is pulling better and as for the noise its a very sutle growl when pulling through the revs sounding a bit more sporty, not at all loud, each to there own i suppose, see what other people have to say. get the precat removed after this to add some more bhp and then a remap by chipped uk. im sure you will enjoy the car even more, a few other cheap mods are the gear shift sortner for about £60 and remus center section. if you wanted to spend a bit more moey go for some of courtney cams ect. have fun rallygif

refering to the first post, the ticking is probably the injectors, nothing to worry about 🙂

Update on ticking noise.

I am almost positive the ticking noise is from the chain so I decided to take it back to the garage at least just to let them know.

Mechanic said yes there is a tick there but it should be ok. He said if it gets any louder I should bring it back for them to have a look.

As I said above, I have a full 1 years warranty on it so if it were to go i would be covered. And at least I have brought it up with the garage so they cant say i did not report a possible problem.

did you change your pannel filter to a k@n ect at the same time??? this makes a difference

no i didnt,but my 1.8 astra which had the same mod you did get a difference in the noise department
